I have inspected the new funeral parlour at Desa Wawasan, Bukit Mertajam. For the Muslim, the last rites is performed at surau. But, for non-muslim, they used to put up tent at the open area. The State Government has approved RM30,000 to renovate and setup a new funeral parlour for non-muslim at Desa Wawasan. This is part of the RM10 million infrastructure project undertaken by the State Government.

Funeral parlour for flat dwellers
NON-Muslim residents of the Desa Wawasan flats in Bukit Mertajam now have a proper place to hold funeral wakes.
A funeral parlour was recently set up at an empty lot on the ground floor of Block B of the state-government flats at a cost of RM30,000.

State executive councillor Wong Hon Wai said the parlour was expected to be operational by the end of this month.
He said the parlour, set up based on public request, could accommodate 20 people.
“Non-Muslim residents have been setting up tents on a nearby field for funeral wakes.
“They now have a proper place for such occasions,” he said after inspecting the parlour recently with Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng, Padang Lalang assemblyman Tan Cheong Heng and Seberang Prai municipal councillor Oon Neow Aun.
Wong said the parlour was one of the many projects carried out by the Penang Government within the RM10mil budget allocated to upgrade infrastructure in the 42 public flats in Penang.
州政府撥款助非土著辦殯葬‧檳2宏願組屋建衛生所

（檳城‧大山腳）有2棟共1824單位的大山腳宏願組屋，獲檳州政府撥款與建室內衛生所，以供低收入的非土著家庭充作殯儀葬禮用途。
州政府撥款約3萬令吉供修建的殯葬衛生所，除了經安裝的一座風扇因太低而待修整，以及電流未引進之外，工程都幾近完竣，料在近期可開放和啟用了。
掌管檳州房屋委員會的黃漢偉行政議員，週一（8月9日）中午特來宏願組屋巡視衛生所建設進度時，透露該衛生所是民聯州政府列入提昇基本設施的計劃之一。
他說，大山腳區國州議員反映宏願組屋內沒有供殯儀設備的衛生所，讓此區低收入的非土著，一旦有親人往生逝世時，需要在曠地上搭棚，相當不方便。
他指出，檳州政府在今年有1000萬撥款，供州政府所掌管的14座組屋，進行48項不同階段的工程，以提昇基本設施，惠及更多低收入的家庭。
他指出，有關組屋包括檳島打鎗埔、甘榜馬來由、大英義學園、威省的麥曼珍舊組屋、麥曼珍2區、青屋、大山腳宏願組屋、安邦惹惹及爪夷等地。
黃漢偉：妥善處理遺體
低收入家庭死者獲尊敬
黃漢偉說，像宏願組屋的衛生所建設，是被列為惠及人民的提昇措施，所以在國州議員反映後，馬上列為優先處理的預算案。
他說，這座室內衛生所雖然簡單，但對低收入家庭的死者，特別是華裔，是一種尊敬，讓他們在往生時，遺體獲得應有的處理設備。

大山腳國會議員章瑛說，這反映州政府注重利民政策，衛生所迅速的建設，將惠及宏願組屋的低收入家庭。
陳宗興：居民善用勿破壞
巴東拉浪區州議員陳宗興說，宏願組屋建設這麼久以來，一直沒有衛生所，民聯州政府馬上撥款興建，顯示以民為本。
他希望組屋區居民能善用這座衛生所，加以保護而不要破壞它，以讓更多居民或逝世者可獲使用。
